Exosomes for skin, what they change and what they cannot
Exosome treatment for the face works on skin quality, texture and repair. It may soften acne scarring, fine lines and dull, fatigued skin, and it suits deeper South Asian skin tones. It is not a filler and it is not Botox. Assessed and performed by Dr Taskeen Iqbal in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi.
Exosomes are nano-sized vesicles that carry instructions between cells. Delivered into the skin, they signal your own cells to repair and to produce collagen. That means exosome treatment is a skin quality treatment, and understanding it that way saves patients a great deal of money on the wrong expectations.
If your concern is texture, scarring, dullness or crepey skin, this treatment addresses it directly. If your concern is lost volume in the cheeks or lines caused by muscle movement, it does not, and no amount of exosome product will change that.
Exosomes for skin at a glance
Exosome treatment for the face costs Rs 85,000 to Rs 600,000 per session at the clinic, depending on brand and billion count. It is delivered by micro-needling under topical anaesthetic, with mild redness for 12 to 24 hours. It may help acne scarring, fine lines, dull skin and post-inflammatory pigmentation. Results build over 8 to 12 weeks and commonly hold 9 to 12 months. Individual results vary.
01 Are exosomes good for your face?
For the right concerns, yes. The treatment is used at the clinic for skin that has lost quality rather than skin that has lost volume.
What it addresses
Acne scarring, fine lines, dull or fatigued skin, uneven texture, post-inflammatory pigmentation, crepey under-eye skin and overall skin quality.
Be told honestly
Lost facial volume, which needs a filler. Expression lines from muscle movement, which need Botox. Active acne, which needs treating first. Deep ice-pick scarring usually needs a combined approach.
One point matters especially in Pakistan: exosome therapy does not rely on heat or aggressive resurfacing. Heat and heavy resurfacing are what create pigmentation risk on medium and deep skin tones, which is why some treatments that work well elsewhere are a poor fit for South Asian skin. Exosomes carry no such penalty, and are suitable across skin types when properly administered.
02 Microneedling or exosomes?
Patients often frame this as a choice, but it is not really one. Micro-needling is how the exosomes get in. An exosome facial is micro-needling plus an active preparation delivered through the channels it creates.
So the real question is whether to add the exosomes. Micro-needling alone is a sound treatment that stimulates repair through controlled micro-injury, and it costs considerably less. Adding exosomes layers a concentrated regenerative signal on top of that stimulus. Published work has examined combined exosome and micro-needling protocols for facial skin, including a study on combined exosome and microneedling treatment for facial pore reduction and skin texture. That is early clinical evidence rather than proof of a guaranteed outcome, and it should be read that way.
For general maintenance and mild texture concerns, micro-needling alone is often enough. For established scarring or skin that has not responded to lighter treatment, the addition is easier to justify.
03 Do exosomes help acne scars?
Acne scarring is one of the more common reasons patients choose exosomes for skin here. Scarred tissue is structurally different from the skin around it, and the regenerative signal supports collagen remodelling within it, which may soften the appearance of indented scars over the 8 to 12 weeks after a session.
The honest qualification is about scar type. Rolling and boxcar scarring, where the tissue is tethered or shallow-edged, tends to respond better. Deep ice-pick scarring, which extends narrowly into the skin, generally needs a combined approach rather than exosomes alone. If your scarring is predominantly ice-pick, you will be told that at assessment rather than sold a course that will disappoint you. Individual results vary.
04 What a session involves
The skin is assessed, topical anaesthetic is applied for comfort, and the exosome preparation is delivered through micro-needling so it reaches the right depth. The appointment is a single clinic visit.
- Weeks 1 to 4. Little dramatic change. Skin often feels smoother and better hydrated first.
- Weeks 4 to 8. Visible improvement in texture and tone as repair progresses.
- Weeks 8 to 12. The fullest effect of the session, as collagen remodelling peaks.
- Months 9 to 12. Benefits are commonly reported to hold around this long before maintenance is considered.
Aftercare decides a meaningful part of the result. Apply broad-spectrum SPF daily and avoid direct sun for the first week, since new tissue is more sensitive to UV. Avoid retinol, AHAs and BHAs for the first week, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol for 48 hours. Sun exposure is the single biggest factor in how long the improvement holds.
05 What exosome facial treatment costs
Price depends on which preparation is used and at what billion count, not on the area treated.
| Exosome type | Origin | Strengths available | Price per session |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exovex | USA | 1, 5, 12, 25 & 50 billion | Rs 85,000 to 600,000 |
| Biosciences | Italy | 5, 10, 25 & 100 billion | Rs 175,000 to 500,000 |
| ASCE+ | South Korea | 10, 25 & 50 billion | Rs 100,000 to 300,000 |
Prices are per session and current as of September 2026. The number of sessions advised depends on your concern and is discussed at consultation.
Every vial is unpacked in front of you before it is drawn up, so you can see the brand, batch and stated billion count. Counterfeit and under-dosed exosome product is a real problem in the local market, and this is the simplest protection against it. The full breakdown by brand and count is on the exosome price guide for Pakistan.
06 Is it the right treatment for your skin?
For general glow and mild texture concerns, PRP for the face performs well and costs considerably less, and it is frequently the more sensible starting point. Exosomes are worth the difference where the concern is more established, where lighter treatment has already been tried, or where a consistent stronger signal is warranted. The side-by-side is set out in exosomes vs prp.
Exosome therapy is not advised with an active skin infection in the treatment area, certain blood disorders, active cancer treatment, certain immunological conditions, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Your full medical history is reviewed at consultation.
The clinic is in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi, roughly 30 minutes from central Islamabad and easily reached from DHA, Gulberg, Bahria Enclave and the F and G sectors. Consultations are arranged over WhatsApp so you can confirm suitability and cost before travelling. Exosomes are also used for hair, covered in this article, and the main treatment page is exosome therapy in islamabad.

Exosomes for skin, frequently asked
Exosomes may help acne scarring, fine lines, dull or fatigued skin, post-inflammatory pigmentation and overall skin quality by signalling your cells to repair and produce collagen. They suit all skin types including deeper South Asian tones. They are not a filler and will not restore lost volume, and they are not a treatment for active acne. Individual results vary.
Lab-derived exosomes are delivered into the skin through micro-needling, which creates controlled micro-channels so the preparation reaches the right depth. The exosomes carry proteins, growth factors and microRNAs that signal skin cells to repair, supporting collagen remodelling over the following weeks. It is performed under topical anaesthetic and takes one clinic appointment.
Results build over 8 to 12 weeks as collagen remodelling peaks, and benefits are commonly reported to hold for around 9 to 12 months before a maintenance session is considered. How long it lasts varies with the strength used, your age, your skin condition and your sun exposure. Daily SPF materially affects how long the improvement holds. Individual results vary.
This is not really an either-or. Micro-needling is the delivery method used to get exosomes into the skin, so an exosome facial is micro-needling plus an active preparation. Micro-needling on its own is a sound and much cheaper treatment that stimulates repair through controlled injury. Adding exosomes adds a concentrated regenerative signal on top, at a considerably higher cost.
At the clinic, exosome therapy costs Rs 85,000 to Rs 600,000 per session depending on the brand and billion count used. American Exovex runs Rs 85,000 to 600,000, Italian Biosciences Rs 175,000 to 500,000, and Korean ASCE+ Rs 100,000 to 300,000. The strength suited to your skin is agreed at consultation.
Yes, when properly administered. Exosome therapy does not rely on heat or aggressive resurfacing, which is what usually creates pigmentation risk on deeper skin tones, so it suits all skin types including medium and deep South Asian skin. Your medical history is reviewed first, and it is not advised with an active skin infection, certain blood disorders, active cancer treatment, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Acne scarring is one of the more common reasons patients choose exosomes for skin at the clinic. The regenerative signal supports collagen remodelling in scarred tissue, which may soften the appearance of indented scars over 8 to 12 weeks. Deep ice-pick scarring generally needs a combined approach rather than exosomes alone, and you will be told if that applies to you. Individual results vary.
Most patients have mild redness and warmth for 12 to 24 hours and return to normal activities the same day. Avoid direct sun and active skincare such as retinol, AHAs and BHAs for the first week, and apply broad-spectrum SPF daily, since new tissue is more sensitive to UV.
Fewer than a comparable course of lighter treatments, because each dose carries a more concentrated payload, but the number depends on your concern and how your skin responds. General skin quality may need less than established acne scarring. The plan is agreed at consultation rather than sold as a fixed package.
No. Exosomes work on skin quality, texture and repair. They do not restore lost volume the way a dermal filler does, and they do not relax the muscle movement that creates expression lines the way Botox does. They address a different problem, and a clinic suggesting otherwise is overselling them.
